چکیده

In certain toxicological experiments with laboratory animals, the outcome of interest is the occurrence of dead or malformed fetuses in a 'litter. Previous investigations have shown that the simple one~ parameter binomial and Poisson models generally provide poor fits to this type of binary data. In this paper, a type of correlated bino~ mial model is proposed for use in this situation. First, the model is described in detail and is shown to have certain theoretical advantages over a beta-binomial model proposed by Williams [8]. These two-parameter models are then contrasted as to goodness of fit to some real~life data. Finally, numerical examples are given in which likelihood ratio tests based on these models are employed to assess the significance of treatment-control differences.

Beta - Binomial and Ordinal Joint Model with Random Effects for Analyzing Mixed Longitudinal Responses

The analysis of discrete mixed responses is an important statistical issue in various sciences. Ordinal and overdispersed binomial variables are discrete. Overdispersed binomial data are a sum of correlated Bernoulli experiments with equal success probabilities. In this paper, a joint model with random effects is proposed for analyzing mixed overdispersed binomial and ordinal longitudinal respo...

An artificial Neural Network approach to monitor and diagnose multi-attribute quality control processes

One of the existing problems of multi-attribute process monitoring is the occurrence of high number of false alarms (Type I error). Another problem is an increase in the probability of not detecting defects when the process is monitored by a set of independent uni-attribute control charts. In this paper, we address both of these problems and consider monitoring correlated multi-attributes proce...

Zero-inflated negative binomial modeling, efficiency for analysis of length of maternity hospitalization

Background: Mothers’ delivery is one of the most common hospitalization factors throughout the world and it’s modeling can explain distribution and effective factors on rising and decreasing of it. The objective of the present study was a suitable modeling for mother hospitalization time and comparing it with different models. Materials & Methods: Present study is an observational and cross-s...

Customer Relationship Termination Problem for Beta-Geometric/Beta-Binomial Model of Customer Behavior

We  deal with the relationship termination problem in the context of individual-level customer relationship management (CRM) and use a Markov decision process to determine the most appropriate occasion for termination of the relationship with a seemingly unprofitable customer. As a particular case, the beta-geometric/beta-binomial model is considered as the basis to define customer beha...

Linguistic Devices of Identity Representation in English Political Discourse with a Focus on Personal Pronouns: Power and Solidarity

The present study was aimed at exploring the use of pronominal reference for identity representation in terms of power and solidarity in English political discourse. The investigation was based on a corpus of four political interviews and debates amounting 26,500 words. The analysis was both qualitative and quantitative. In the qualitative analysis, a discourse-analytic approach was used to fin...
